Advanced Cutting Technology

We utilize the Ventis laser cutting machine, which delivers exceptional quality cuts at high speeds. For optimal results, we recommend keeping the thickness of mild steel below 20mm, as this is the maximum effective range for our laser system.

The Ventis machine enhances the quality of our cuts by minimizing exposure to corrosive elements during the laser cutting process, ensuring that your mild steel retains its integrity

Eco-Cut System

Our Ventis system features the innovative ‘Eco-Cut’ option, which not only increases cutting speed but also improves efficiency compared to other laser cutting machines. To mitigate the heat generated during cutting, we apply a fine spray of water combined with a rust inhibitor, ensuring the metal stays cool and undamaged.

Precautions for Optimal Cutting

Prior to cutting, it’s essential to ensure that mild steel is properly stored to avoid rust, which can adversely affect cut quality. We keep all our mild steel stock indoors for this reason. Additionally, any paint or markings must be removed to prevent interference with the cutting process. We strongly recommend treating or powder coating mild steel to prevent rust after cutting.

This protective treatment is not typically included unless specifically requested, but it’s the best way to safeguard your mild steel components. For more details on our protective services, please refer to our additional offerings.

Available Steel Grades

At MEC, we stock a variety of mild steel grades suitable for diverse applications and can source other types as needed. Some of our most popular options include:

  1. S275/43a
  2. Cold Rolled (CR – up to 3mm)
  3. Hot Rolled
  4. S335 (various levels)
  5. Durbar Plate
  6. Boiler Grade Plates
  7. Pre-galvanised
  8. Zintec

Mild steel is one of the most widely utilized metals at MEC, known for its affordability, durability, and versatility. Common applications include cookware and automotive chassis. However, due to its susceptibility to corrosion and limited weight-bearing capacity, only specific grades are suitable for structural purposes.
